These images from a bound book of twelve paintings on silk is attributed to Chinese artist, Dong Qichang. His name is written in the book, however, it is unlikely that he was truly the artist. Dong Qichang was a seventeenth century artist famous for his paintings of landscapes. These paintings are thought to depict the Luohans, or followers of Buddha who have achieved enlightenment. Each painting contains symbolism such as a tiger, dragon, or cup that likely corresponds with a specific follower.
